1. The Iroquois County Fair Talent Show will adhere to the rules of the Illinois Association of Agricultural Fairs State Talent Contest.
2. Junior and Senior Division Age Information:
A. Junior Division: All contestants can be 14 years old or younger on the day and date of local contest. Junior division contestants can be 15 years old when competing at the State Level in January of 2013, if they met the age requirements at their local contest. Any Junior Division first place winner/winners at the I.A.A.F. State Talent Contest cannot return to the Junior Division at the state level again. Any Junior Division first place winner/winners from the 2011 Iroquois County Fair Talent Show will not be eligible to compete in the 2012 Iroquois County Fair Talent Show in the Junior Division. A Junior Division first place winner/winners
may compete in the Junior Division after sitting out a year of local competition if age requirements are met.
B. Senior Division: All contestants that are 15 years to 21 years of age on the day and date of the local contest will be entered in the Senior Division. Senior Division contestants can be 22 years old when competing at the State Level in January of 2013, if they met the age requirements at their local contest. Any Senior Division first place winner/winners at the I.A.A.F. State Talent Contest cannot return to the Senior Division at the state level again. No Senior Division first place winner/ winners from the Iroquois County Fair Talent Show can return to the Iroquois County Fair Talent Show as contestants.
3. A contest or contestants are to be residents of Iroquois County or regularly enrolled in a school located in Iroquois County.
4. Contestants must be of single marital status and never have been married.
5. All contestants may appear in only one act.
6. Each contestant is responsible for making his/her own entry. All members, including an alternate, of a group MUST fill-out a separate Talent Contest Entry Form and mail by the deadline date.
7. All contestants will be entered by their legally given name or group name. Group names cannot include a name of business, school, organization, or other commnity service group.
8. Any act that goes over four (4) minutes performance time will be disqualified.
9. There is a setup time limit of three (3) minutes. This will be timed.
10. All applicants to be contestants in the local fair contest must audition before a panel at a designated place and time. Applicants will be notified by the Iroquois County Fair Office of the date and place of the audition when their application has been returned to the fair office. Any application that is incomplete will be returned to the applicant. ALL applications to become contestants in the Iroquois County Talent Show MUST BE postmarked by June 15, 2012. This is true of any application that has been returned to an applicant for any reason.
11. The audition will serve as a preliminary contest. The audition is not open to the public or to the media. If a group includes an alternate, the alternate must also audition for the fair contest. All acts MUST BE MEMORIZED for the audition. Any act that fails to follow the contest rules at the audition will be disqualified from fair contest. The decision of the panel is final.
12. Applicants that qualify for the contest will be notified by the Iroquois County Fair Office via first class mail; at that time, each contestant will receive one complimentary gate pass and one show ticket, along with further instructions concerning the fair contest.
13. All contestants must supply their own equipment. A piano will only be available at the audition for piano solos. At the fair contest, the professional sound company contracted by the Iroquois County Fair Board will furnish cordless microphones, microphone stands, a CD player, and have the capability to plugin a contestant's personal electric piano. A sound check will be held the day of the local contest to assess the sound needs of the contestants.
14. Accompaniment CDs are acceptable. No like talent is allowed, i.e. background vocal, like instrumentation, tap dancing, or sound effects. This wil be carefully monitored and any infraction to this rule will disqualify the act from the local contest.
15. Judging of the performance will be based on a total of one hundred (100) points; Costume, 10; Audience appeal, 10; Stage presence, 30; Ability, 50. The decision of the judges will be final. Scoring sheets/critiques will not be made available to the contestants or any other person.
16. Participation ribbons will be awarded to all contestants. Trophies will be awarded to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place contestants in each division. Prize money for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners in each division will be $100, $50, and $25. In addition, a $75 stipend will be issued upon completion of the state contest by the Iroquois County Fair Board to the Junior and Senior Division 1st place winners. This stipend is intended to help defray expenses incurred during the state contest.
17. The 1st place winners of the Junior and Senior Divisions will appear in Springfield in January of 2012 at the Illinois Association of Agricultural Fairs Convention State Talent Contest. In the event that the winning entry cannot appear in the state contest due to illness or other reasons, the 2nd place winner will be eligible for the state contest.
18. Entries must be mailed to Iroquois County 4-H & Agricultural Club Fair, Box 301, Crescent City, Illinois 60928 and postmarked by June 15, 2011. No Entries will be accepted after that date. All entries must be postmarked.
